Project duration: 2008

In 2008, Regen produced The Road to 2020, pioneering analysis of how the south west could meet 15 per cent of its energy demand from renewable sources by 2020.   The report laid out an early analysis of what the UK’s new EU renewables target could mean for the south west of England, where the challenges would lie, and where there were opportunities for the region to speed up deployment and increase economic development. We explored the implications of both a 15% and a 20% target for the region because we believed our strong renewable resource offered the opportunity for us to go beyond the national average.

Renewable energy deployment has changed considerably since 2008, not least with the advent of large scale solar farms.  Read our latest Progress Report to understand the current level of renewables deployment – both in the south west and in England – and to review our latest analysis of the future deployment outlook.
