April 2007 – April 2011

Regen's low carbon development programme was established in 2007 to accelerate the uptake of low and zero carbon technologies in the region’s new housing developments. The programme supported a number of developments, most notably Cranbrook, one of the first and most successful developments using district heating with biomass Combined Heat and Power (CHP). Numerous challenges were overcome using expertise from Regen, including:

  • The negotiation and provision of significant public funding
  • Countering housing developer dissatisfaction with the lack of domestic gas connections
  • Development of a strong planning policy

Lessons from the project were collected in the below publication.
