2010 Marine Designs Ltd Winner 2010: Best Business Innovation Marine Designs Ltd has achieved rapid growth in 2010 by focusing on the port access requirements of Offshore Wind developers. The company has listened to what the operators required and incorporated innovative features into its patented DockMaster concrete Pontoon system, thus enabling the company to win five separate O&M base projects for companies such as DONG energy, ODE and ABP. Ladock and Grampound Road Transition 2010 Winner: Best Community Initiative Ladock parish was successful in competing for a grant from the Low Carbon Communities Challenge and has now used this to install renewables in 16 houses, three businesses and four community buildings in the parish as well as plant six acres of edible woodland, and formed a co-op to manage and grow the scheme. Cannington Cold Stores 2010 Winner: Best Renewable Energy Scheme Somerset’s first anaerobic digestion or biogas project was installed at Cannington cold stores, Sedgemoor, in 2009. The 0.65 MW plant is locally-fueled with yogurt residue from Yeo Valley and fruit juice residue from Gerber Juice, along with maize and grass silage. Stroud District Council 2010 Winner: Most Proactive Local Authority Stroud District Council’s Environment Strategy adopted in 2007 lead to a three year Climate Change Programme 'Target 2050' helping more than 180 householders, 66 businesses and 20 community buildings to reduce CO2 emissions. Their cross tenure project in an off-gas area has delivered 48 renewable heating solutions. SDC is part of the DECC PAYS pilot, financing tailored local solutions with local suppliers and installers. Andy Dawson, Castle Drogo, Devon 2010 Winner: South West Sustainable Energy Champion Andy Dawson is a pioneer of sustainability and renewable energy at Castle Drogo, he is at the forefront of the National Trust’s drive to meet very ambitious sustainability targets. Andy’s engaging, innovative and enthusiastic approach to all aspects, and wide public outreach programme, has been enormously beneficial to the trust and SW bioheat programme. Forest Fuels Ltd 2010 Winner: Supplier or Installer of the Year Forest Fuels are the suppliers to their 750 kW boiler at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, they have proved to be committed, reliable and consistent in both delivery and fuel quality throughout the past year. They have supported the NHS Trust throughout the year with all the issues encountered with our boiler installation, offering sound assistance and guidance when required. They have a wealth of knowledge and industry experience which proved useful during the design and build stage of our project. The NHS Trust and Forest Fuels have worked together to create a framework for long term supply contracts and have recently entered a 15 year contract enhancing their commitment to our installation.
