2009 SeaGen Winner 2009: Best Business Innovation SeaGen is the world's first commercial-scale tidal turbine. It is rare for a completely new type of large scale energy generation technology to be successfully demonstrated. This completely new invention, developed in Bristol by Marine Current Turbines, produces clean green electricity from a previously untapped huge marine energy resource. It is therefore something unusual and of great potential importance not just in the UK but world-wide. Devon County Council Winner 2009: Most Proactive Local Authority Devon County Council (DCC) has the aim of 'making Devon England's greenest county' in our strategic plan and this is supported by politicians and officers alike. A local supplier provides woodchip, with 50 per cent coming from the Drogo estate. Clifton Lido Winner 2009: Best Small Reneable Energy Scheme (below 100 kW) The Clifton Lido is a blue water pool with green credentials. Set in the heart of Bristol, and boasting the city's only solar heated outdoor pool, the Lido has become a year-round destination where visitors can escape the day to day rigours of city life, swim, dine and discover true holistic treatments.
