When: 9 and 10 March

Where: Dartington, Devon

Cost: £80 (It is subsidised for community energy practitioners, but if you are part of a commercial organisation and passionate about community energy then the full cost is £250).

Calling all community energy practitioners, this open space event is being hosted by communities, for communities, so if you are part of a community energy project or group, then consider yourself invited! We’ll be meeting at the beautiful Dartington estate in Devon for a two-day, fun filled residential, including walks, talks, films, fantastic food and collaborative discussion themed around community energy innovation and consolidation. Community energy is all about direct action for incredible impact, but this takes courage, considerable human effort, motivation and inspiration. This event is about supporting each other, and building our own community of practitioners. We are the experts in community energy, so by sharing our experience, learning from each other and building mutual trust and understanding, we can gain valuable input and perspectives on the issues that matter to us. During the two days we will concentrate on consolidation of our existing projects, discussing how to make the most of our renewable energy assets, and exploring what happens next for our movement. We’ll be sharing stories about how we are innovating, what new and exciting projects we are developing, and how we could make new business models and revenue streams work. With your help we’d like to develop a plan with realistic and manageable outcomes to make sure the talk turns into action. We very much hope you will join us for this celebratory, social and collaborative event, it was so good last year we decided to do it all again.

Here’s some of the topics we’d like to cover, but it’s open space so please bring your own ideas and be prepared to facilitate and participate.

  • Innovation – local supply and distribution, network innovation, renewable energy generation technologies, project economics and financing, how to raise £ millions, and secondary market for solar.
  • Consolidation - education and schools, rooftop PV lease busting, collective action and co-ordination, collective ownership of renewables, fuel poverty and energy advice services, managing your assets more effectively, avoiding risk, arts and energy.

This event is being planned and organised by community energy practitioners in Devon, with the support of Regen, Power to Change and Western Power Distribution. It is subsidised for community energy practitioners, but if you are part of a commercial organisation and passionate about community energy then the full cost is £250.

During the two days we are inviting all the Devon groups to come and participate in a bit of Devon Community Energy Network planning for 2018 -19.

“The open space format of the Spring Gathering was brilliant because it allowed us to set our own agenda and really make the most of sharing and learning from the expertise and experience we all have as community energy people. It was great to feel part of this national movement and catch up with 'colleagues' from across the UK.”

Sophie Phillips, South Dartmoor Community Energy

“The Spring Gathering was a wonderful opportunity to meet with community energy practitioners from across the country, share experiences, review progress, walk & talk and have fun on the Dartington Estate in the glorious Devon countryside.  Looking forward to the next one!”
