Local Policy

Local authorities are all currently formulating new local development framework policies. Each local authority will now be expected to incorporate policies to support the achievement of sub-regional renewable energy targets and zero-carbon development targets set out in the draft RSS. Regen SW is monitoring emerging national policy guidance and working closely with the Government Office for the South West , the South West Regional Assembly, and the South West RDA to ensure advice provision in this field is as joined up and effective as possible.

Renewable energy

Regen SW undertook a series of training events for local authority planning officers, which were designed to disseminate the evidence gathered to support the development of regional planning policies on renewable energy. As a result of this training, all local authorities in the south west now have access to the South West Renewable Energy Atlas, a DVD which highlights both the wind and some biomass resources and constraints in the region, giving local authorities a clearer picture of how these technologies can contribute to the achievement of renewable energy targets. For more information about the South West Renewable Energy Atlas contact Cheryl Hiles, senior planning and policy manager at chiles@regensw.co.uk.

Low-carbon development

Regen SW has undertaken training, with funding from the Energy Saving Trust to build the capacity of those working on trying to improve the energy standards of new developments.  Practitioners from across the region came together to share knowledge, experience, and solutions.
