South West Heat Map

Regen SW has commissioned the Centre for Sustainable Energy and Geofutures to develop a region-wide GIS heat demand map for the south west. The map models heat demand down to the individual building scale, based on a range of datasets.

The South West Heat Map is available at www.southwestheatmap.co.uk.

Unfortunatly the South West Heat Map is currenty unavaiable while information on renewing the licencing is obtained.

The map provides local authorities and local project developers in the south west with a detailed understanding of existing heat demand in their areas. This will enable them to scope meaningful opportunities to use low carbon and renewable heat technologies – avoiding the need for the individual commissioning of local heat demand assessments for their areas. Local authorities will also be able to combine use of this information with data that they hold on potential housing/commercial development sites to support them in planning for sustainable energy.

The heat map also has the potential to be used in identifying suitable areas for the rollout of energy efficiency programmes.

Password protected layers

Due to data licensing regulations, some of the information layers contained within the South West Heat Map will be password protected to ensure the user has the appropriate licenses in place. Whilst the website is in development over the summer all users will need to contact Regen SW for password access and will be encouraged to feed back issues on the design and presentation of the assessments to inform the final product.  Click here to email Josie Ashe to register for a password.

Accessing the GIS data

Local authorities wishing to obtain the GIS layers for their own use will need to produce signed confirmation that they hold appropriate licenses. Local authorities will either need to pay an administrative charge of £550 to receive the data in their preferred format, or be a member of Regen SW (read more about membership). This will entitle the user to the transfer of all available data layers from the South West Heat Map and other renewable resource assessments.
