Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole renewable energy strategy refresh

Preparing the ground

We support decision makers, creating the right conditions for investment

More on this theme

Regen SW was commissioned in October 2010 by the Dorset Energy Group to undertake a refresh of the Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole Renewable Energy Strategy. We started with a detailed assessment of the renewable energy resources available in the area, building on the regional resource assessments funded by DECC. This allowed the development of an understanding of the potential for the area to contribute towards the UK’s 2020 target on renewable energy. This could be used as the basis for a local renewable energy target if there was a need or desire to put a local target in place.

We also analysed the current issues, barriers, opportunities and successes in the area through discussions with the Dorset Energy Group, a public opinion survey, at a consultation event in March 2011 and by applying Regen SW’s knowledge of the industry. This was written up into an Issues Paper which outlines the state of the sector in Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole in 2011. From this a shorter draft strategy document has been drawn out, which focuses on the key barriers, opportunities and identifies priority areas for action for the next five to ten years. The consultation ran from 1 June to 30 September 2011. Regen SW is working with the Dorset Energy Group to produce the final refreshed strategy based on feedback from the consultation.
