General offshore information

There are several organisations that provide information, advice and potentially funding to support offshore renewable energy.

For general information about marine renewables and offshore wind the Renewable-UK website is a good place to start. 

The Crown Estate has some very useful publications especially for Offshore Wind.

EMEC - The European Marine Energy Centre - has a lot of useful information about the various types of wave and tidal technologies.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change and Department of Business Innovation and Skills also feature offshore renewables.

Funding bodies

There are a number of organisations that provide funding for offshore renewable technology developers.

The South West RDA Grant for R&D is now being run by the Technology Strategy Board due to the planned closue of SWRDA in 2012.

The Carbon Trust also runs a number of grant schemes and open competitions focusing on various aspects of marine energy and offshore wind.

The Technology Strategy Board and Energy Technologies Institute also run regular competitions and collaborative research projects.

Manufacturing and business support

The EEF - The Manufactures Association. The EEF is one of Regen SW's strategic partners holding joint events and providing advice to manufacturers and engineering based companies.

The Manufacturing Advisory Service - South West - provides business support for manufacturing companies in the south west region.

Surfers Against Sewage SAS represents the interests of the surfing community and other marine users and has recently compiled a very useful Guidance on Environmental Impact Assessment of Offshore Renewable Energy Devlopment on Surfing Resources and Recreation (2009)

Finding Sanctuary is a partnership project to establish Marine Conservation Zones in the south west. Regen SW are members of the steering group for marine renewables.

The National Grid, as part of their annual Offshore Development Information Statement, has produced a Future Scenarios Consultation, which helps to facilitate an efficient, coordinated and economical transmission system.
