Microgeneration

Background

Regen SW are working with the Energy Saving Trust to help develop the microgeneration market in the south west.

This is part of a national programme managed by the Energy Saving Trust, with a Microgeneration Co-ordinator appointed in every part of the UK except Scotland.

For the purposes of Regen SW’s work microgeneration covers small scale renewable energy technologies, up to 50kW for electricity and up to 45kW for heat.

Regen SW's microgeneration work

The objective of Regen SW’s microgeneration work is to help develop and support the microgeneration supply chain in the south west so it has the capacity to deliver the number of microgeneration installations required to help achieve the UK’s renewable energy and CO2 reduction targets.

To do this Regen SW is focusing on both the demand side and the supply side. On the demand side Regen SW is working to provide routes to markets for south west based microgeneration companies.

On the supply side Regen SW is providing support to south west microgeneration companies on:

• accreditation, where our initial focus is on making certification under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) easier for companies,
• sector development, and
• skills and training, currently concentrated on improving the provision of microgeneration training in Further Education (FE) colleges in the south west.
