Company Spotlight – Pipex, Norco and Coastline Surveys
Pipex Ltd
Pipex, based in Plymouth, have been designing and testing a new HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) pipework system specifically for use in offshore wind applications. This is a corrosive resistant sleeve for array and export cables across the seabed.
The pipes are ideal for marine applications due to the material’s resistance to corrosion and impacts. The pipe have been designed and fabricated in the factory at Plymouth and tested at the clients’ premises.
Norco GRP
Norco GRP, based in Dorset, has been contracted by Atlantis Resource Corporation to manufacture the replacement blades for their demonstrator tidal stream for deployment at EMEC in Orkney. Norco is a reinforced plastic specialist with experience in manufacturing products for marine applications. The private company has 3 sites across the south coast and the blades are likely to be manufactured at the Poole factory.
These blades have been ordered to replace the blades that have previously failed on Atlantis’s 1 MW device.
Coastline Surveys
Coastline Surveys, based in Falmouth, have been continuing work as contractors on offshore wind farms. The marine surveying company have been in Scotland during the autumn months collecting data at SSE’s Islay and Kintire wind farms. As reported before, Coastline Survey has also been working on the Atlantic Array project in the Severn estuary with the MV FlatHolm conducting bird and benthic surveys.
