Global Marine Systems lays new cables for EMEC

Global Marine System, who’s depot is in Portland, have this week finished laying new cables from shore to the test site for two new tidal stream devices and one wave device and the European Marine Energy Centre, in the Orkney Islands.

The cable laying vessel was the CS Sovereign and is continuing work by refurbishment of the existing cables and ROV surveys at the centre.

“The CS Sovereign has been conducting ground-breaking work for EMEC and for the first time in theirhistory, a dedicated DP2 cable ship has installed a submarine cable at the EMEC’s wave and tidalsites” said Kevin Todd, sales manager, Global Marine Energy.

“These cable installations by the CS Sovereign are an example of how GMS is looking to the future renewable energy markets such as wave and tidal and helping the UK to meets its CO2 targets.”

The tidal cables are each 4km long and will be connecting Atlantis Resources’ and Voith Hydro’s devices when they are installed next year.
