Green success stories sought as Green Energy Awards celebrate surging growth in sustainable energy industry

The renewable energy agency Regen SW is looking for the biggest green success stories in the south west as it invites nominations for the seventh annual Green Energy Awards. Companies, local authorities and communities from Gloucestershire to Cornwall will compete for the prestigious awards, which the winners will receive at a presentation event at the Assembly Rooms in Bath on 23 November.

Merlin Hyman, Regen SW’s CEO says: “Our research shows that the sustainable energy industry in the south west is surging forward, despite the recession, and has grown by 78% in the past two years. The Green Energy Awards celebrate this success and reward those whose enterprise and expertise are delivering real, practical answers to the challenges of climate change. We want to see the best in the south west coming forward again this year.”

Past winners include Castle Drogo (Best Renewable Energy Scheme, 2009), Bovey Climate Action Group (Best Sustainable Energy Community, 2008) and Devon County Council (Most Proactive Local Authority, 2007 and 2009). Now is the time to think about which projects should be nominated for the 2010 awards.

“Winning Installer of the Year has been really beneficial for us in a number of ways,” says Ellen Rodger from Sungift Solar Ltd. “It has helped to give our customers confidence that we are a company they can trust to offer high-quality installations and a dedicated, personal customer service. At SunGift Solar we really do strive to offer the very best service possible and it is really nice to be recognised for this.”

The seven categories for this year are as follows:

• Most Proactive Local Authority
• Best Renewable Energy Scheme
• Installer or Supplier of the Year, sponsored by Nu-Heat
• South West Sustainable Energy Champion, sponsored by Business Link
• Best Business Innovation
• Best Community Initiative
• Sustainable Energy Photo of the Year (community focus), sponsored by Communities for Renewables.

Any companies, local authorities and community projects that wish to be entered for any of these awards can contact Regen SW or submit nominations online at http://www.regensw.co.uk/events/regen-sw-events-/green-energy-awards-2010/how-to-nominate-

Nominations close on 13 September 2010.
