Wave Hub cable connected at beach
The 25km long cable that will eventually transmit electricity from the Wave Hub to the grid has finished the first stage of installation. After a few meteorological and technical delays, the cable end has been brought to the beach from the installation vessel MV Nordica.
Delays were caused earlier in the month due to swells and the flotation device used failed which lead to the cable sinking. The cable will today be buried on the beach and connected to the substation at Hayle. The delays in the cable installation will not affect the deployment of devices, post commissioning, next year.
The MV Nordica will now sail to the wave hub location, deploying the cable, which is loaded on a reel on deck, as it goes. When reaching the site, 16km offshore, the wave hub connector will be installed on the sea bed.
