Training to support the delivery of PPS1 in the South West
South West Councils and South West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership have sponsored the development of training resources to complement the toolkit materials.
These materials have been prepared by the South West Sustainability Training Network. The network is led by CAG Consultants, in association with the Devon Sustainable Building Initiative, Buro Happold, Houghton Associates, Impetus Consulting and Peter Capener.
Training can be organised in three different ways:
- An in-house course (run for an individual local authority or group of local authorities)
- A regional or sub-regional course (dates to be advised)
- Support for a local trainer to run one or more courses
Typical costs for the first two options, depending on numbers and overheads, are about £100 per head (excluding VAT).
The training materials consist of a series of modules which can be put together into half or one-day courses (see detail below). Modules A-E closely follow the structure of the toolkit, while the remaining modules F-K cover related subjects in more depth. These modules can be combined into full-day, short-day or half-day courses for officers and/or elected members.
|
Examples of typical courses for different audiences: Policy planning officers (full day): Modules A, B and C (Policy context; Developing an evidence base & Translating evidence into policy) Development management officers (full day): Modules A, D and E (Policy context; Development management; Monitoring and reviewing) Policy planning officers and development management officers (half-day courses):
Module G (Climate change adaptation for planners) Elected members (half day): Module F (Planning for climate change - elected members) Elected members and officers (half or full day courses):
Module J (Sustainable energy solutions - onshore wind developments) |
Further details on each module are presented in the table below. Download the full course outlines from the download tool at the bottom of the page. A training programme based on these modules will be rolled out across the region from July 2010 to March 2011.
