Principles of an evidence base
This section sets out the key principles of a ‘robust and credible evidence base’ which will enable policy development for sustainable energy and adaptation. Such an evidence base is just one part of what constitutes a ’sound’ core strategy, as set out in PPS12: Local Spatial Planning.
This section of the toolkit is primarily aimed at planning officers. If you are a planning officer, you should use this section to build on your understanding of what an evidence should be and how it might be used as you prepare to consider a range of policy objectives in more detail.
This section sets out a high level outline of how to build an evidence base and the specific requirements for a range of policy objectives are described in the policy objectives section.
This section might also be of interest to other officers and elected members who would like to understand more about the principles which have helped to inform the creation of the evidence base on which particular policies rest.
