Current monitoring activity at the regional level
The regional Annual Monitoring Report (AMR)
The Strategic Leaders' Board (part of South West Councils) oversees the work of the Regional Planning Body and has a responsibility to monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the Regional Spatial Strategy for the South West. It is required to produce an Annual Monitoring Report by the end of February each year for the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG).
The Annual Monitoring Report evaluates the progress of a range of sustainable energy policies using two key indicators:
1) national core output indicator E3: Renewable Energy Generation (which requires regional planning bodies and local authorities to report the amount of renewable energy generation by installed capacity and type). See here for details.
2) regional indicator EV08: Electricity generated from renewable sources (which requires the regional planning body to report on energy generation in terms of output and type)

Regional AMR Data Collection
Data for the south west AMR is currently collated from two main data sources:
1) Information on the electricity generated from renewable sources (EV08) is obtained from the annual Regen SW Survey of Renewable Energy Projects in the South West (see the news and resources page). This annual survey gathers data on renewable energy projects (electricity and heat) from developers, installers and local authorities.
2) Data on renewable energy capacity (E3) is obtained from the national renewable energy statistics database (RESTATS) – see the monitoring activity at national level page for more information.
