Internships

Jake Barnes
Jake joined the Regen SW team in January 2010 to help collect and analyse data for the 2011 Annual Survey of Renewable Electricity and Heat Projects in South West England. The Survey pulls together and analyses both primary and secondary data from a wide range of sources, for comparison against 2020 renewables targets and local resource assessments.

Jake has an MSc in Energy Policy and Sustainability from Exeter University (2009). Read more about Jake on his own webpage

Rebecca Martin
Rebecca joined Regen SW as an intern as part of the Graduate Business Partnership Scheme, fresh from gaining a 1st class BSc in Renewable Energy from the University of Exeter. At Regen SW Rebecca is conducting a compatibility assessment of the supply chain for offshore wind turbines with south west companies, and developing the Marine Energy and Offshore Wind Company Directory and database. Read more about Rebecca on her own webpage.

Henry Bardolf-Smith
Henry worked for Regen SW as an intern from April 2009 to May 2010. He has a degree in BSc Engineering with honours from Bristol UWE. He has successfully completed the ‘Shell Step' graduate program run by Exeter University and then undertook the Graduate Business Partnership program.

Susannah Bedford
Susannah completed her degree in BSc Rural Environmental Sciences, graduating from The University of Reading with first class honours in 2008. Whilst carrying out a part time position as a teaching assistant she worked as an intern at Regen SW for one day a week during 2010.

Dipti Naphade
Dipti joined Regen SW as a Graduate Intern. She gained her undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Architecture with a First Class in 2007. She worked as an Architectural Trainee in a multi-disciplinary firm - Tierra Design, Singapore. She holds a Masters degree in Sustainable Environmental Design from the prestigious Architectural Association School of Architecture, London. Having gained the BREEAM International Assessor training, Dipti is qualified to carry out BREEAM Assessments outside of the UK (Gulf and Europe) using the standard schemes and the Bespoke International Scheme. Hence, she is focused on continuing to gain experience in the sustainable design and energy sector.

Ben Wyatt
Ben joined Regen SW as an intern, part of the Green energy awards case study programme. Ben is currently studying a Mechanical Engineering degree at Cardiff University. He is currently in his third year of a four year masters course. The internship will give Ben the opportunity to experience a number of diverse areas in the field of sustainable and renewable energy. It will allow him to further his interest in the development of new and existing technologies, with the aim to reducing the carbon footprint of the south west and the UK as whole. Ben responsibility whilst at Regen SW is to visit and interview the companies and organisations. Discuss with the firms what there have doing, problems they have encountered, facts and figures about the power they produced and the costs involved, and also there plans for the future.

Kerry Willcocks
Kerry joined Regen SW as a Graduate Intern, part of the Green energy awards case study programme. Kerry is currently studying towards a Bsc Geography degree at the University of Bristol. Kerry’s degree focuses on Physical Geography while Kerry’s dissertation focuses on quantifying uncertainty in synthetic aperture radar flood images in order to improve the usability of satellite images.
Whilst working at Regen SW Kerry will be researching local companies and compiling case studies about the positive impact local sustainable businesses have on the South West. Kerry will be working primarily individually to research and gain the information but with both the Regen SW team and other interns in the production of information. This will improve Kerry’s knowledge of the sustainable sector giving her the opportunity to highlight the positive impact so many companies are having on the South West region.

Oliver Grogono

Oliver joined Regen SW in August to undertake an internship writing case studies of successful south west businesses, organisations, local authorities and individual projects. He is currently writing his thesis “Correlating wind and wave power” to complete an MSc Renewable Energy and the Built Environment at the Centre for Alternative Technology. Having studied feasibility and implementation of a range of renewable technologies during this course he focused on expanding and using this knowledge.

Rachel Fine

Rachel is a graduate intern with Regen SW. She is involved with the Green Energy Awards assessments. This role involves developing a dialog and visiting companies, organisations and individuals which are actively pursuing a more sustainable future. From this Rachel will produce case studies for each, highlighting achievements in the renewable sector and indicating possible future developments. This work will be completed in conjunction with other current interns. The project involves a great deal of initiative and responsibility and the work produced will provide important information for the well accredited Green Energy awards.

Matthew Chalk

Matthew has a BA (Hons) degree in Marketing and is keen to build his knowledge in the area of sustainable and renewable energy technologies, and gain a greater insight into this developing industry.

He has a variety of work experience having worked at an environmental consultancy in the water industry, as well as previous experience in IT and as a Design Technician.

Austin Fairley

Austin joined Regen SW in March after completing a Bsc (Hons) degree in Applied Marine Sports Science at the University of Plymouth. He felt that working with Regen SW would be a good way to gain some industry experience in a field in which he became interested during his dissertation project, which focused on coastal dynamics in connection with offshore renewables. During his internship Austin helped with the running of the 2012 Renewable energy marketplace event and the organisation of the Green energy awards as well as analyzing feedback data to write constructive reports for future events.
