External event: Risk Management Workshop 09.30-15.30 Venue: Monkey Sanctuary, Looe

Minimising exposure and interruption to economic pressures is critical to business success. However, it is increasingly important to prepare and protect your business against interruption and cost from flood, wind and infrastructure damage. This roadshow of events across Cornwall will help you plan for, and manage, the risks associated with more frequent and potentially unpredictable environmental events. At each event you will hear from a local business case study explaining how beneficial and cost saving planning and preparation can be. Booking details

External event: Good Homes Alliance Ecobuild 2010 Performance Improvement - Post Construction Testing 10:30 - 12.00 Venue: Earls Court, London

Leading organisations, clients and some developers are beginning to recognise the benefits of post construction testing. Those studies that have been completed, most notably the Stamford Brook project by Leeds Metropolitan University, have shown that there is often a significant discrepancy between design aspiration and as-built performance. This seminar offers a strategic overview of post construction fabric testing and will detail the range of tests, the benefits and constraints, costs and learning opportunities. We then go on to provide more detail of the forthcoming TSB Building Performance Evaluation competition. Places at this free seminar are restricted and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis on the day. You can reserve a place by e mailing info@goodhomes.org.uk. Entrance to Ecobuild is free but please register at www.ecobuild.co.uk Booking details

The recent DECC UK Renewable Energy Strategy states: “Effective and proactive strategic planning by local and regional authorities is vital to capitalise on the renewable opportunites available to us. Key will be a transparent, robust and evidence-based process in which individuals, communities, developers and planners can engage”. This requires a drawing together of plan-making skills and the needs and issues raised by renewable energy. This full-day workshop is to be held at The Novotel Hotel, Bristol on Wednesday 10th March 2010 will give you the opportunity to: - improve your knowledge of the policy development - consider the implications of the proposed changes to national policy - Review what is needed when delivering an evidence base - Improve the development of policies, including spatial guidance and site allocation. What do we mean by localism and engagement?

2010-03-25

External event: What do we mean by localism and engagement? Taunton Conference Centre

It is with this in mind that we have decided to hold a conference that will investigate exactly what is meant by ‘localism' and ‘community engagement'. We have booked Taunton Conference Centre at Somerset College as the venue and we have invited experts from across the region and beyond to give us the theory behind this new jargon. Experts are all very well but it is YOU, the practitioners, who can fill in the missing ingredient; namely what works and what is likely to work - using your local knowledge and experience. We intend that this event will both inform the politicians and also share good practice around and we are still working on the precise format - suffice it to say we intend the event to be interesting and very participative...with a few surprises! If you would like to register your interest in attending or ask any questions, please contact us: conference2010@creatingexcellence.org.uk Booking details
